Looking back across the year Phoenix have a lot to celebrate with some amazing results and such potential going forward in to 2020.
NDP Finals
Our season this year started with three Regional NDP qualifying events, this then progresses through to the semi-finals then leading to the national finals.
Many gymnasts from Phoenix High Flyers made it all the way through the finals this year bringing home some fantastic podium results. Looking at our young squad we have a lot to look forward to for the future. Well done to everyone for all your hard work. Highlights go to the Gant boys Finley and William, for some outstanding results on both Trampoline and DMT for the first part of the regional season bringing home gold and silver medals from the finals in Birmingham well done boy’s great job.
The English qualifiers leading to English championship Finals
Here we saw another haul of success, many of our regional gymnasts stepped up to national level to compete in both Trampoline and DMT showing their progression this year. Alongside our Elite squad who proved they can shine when it matters under pressure they all held it together.
Many gymnasts made this year’s English Championship finals in both Trampoline and also Double Mini Trampoline. This resulted in many medals, England squad members and further trials offered this year.
SES qualification rounds for Fig Development & Elite Gymnasts
The spring event series opens up opportunities for the higher level gymnasts who are training 12-20 hours plus per week, to qualify to NDP National finals and also the British Championships.
This year our Fig Development squad and also our elite squad have worked extremely hard to progress to the to all three prestigious finals events, this being the NDP Finals - English Championship Finals and the British Championships.
British Championships finals
On the Trampoline this year both Emilia Motejunatie aged 10 and William Gant aged 12 qualified to the British Championships, on DMT both Sophie Moir aged 14 and Emma Sharpley aged 17 qualified. This event has the very top athletes from across the country competing for podium places. From here selections can come for GBR Squad, it is our intention to support our athletes towards these pathways as this takes a lot of hard work and dedication from both coach and gymnast.
All four athletes competed their best and represented PHF extremely well by holding their own. Making the top 8 finals is an incredible achievement at this level competing among the best in the country many of whom are already GBR squad members having represented the country.
End of Year Yorkshire Championships icing on the cake
This year the Yorkshire championships was held at Ponds Forge international sports center in Sheffield, organized by the current TC which was a great success.
An outstanding achievement for the whole club, with our club and regional squad members competing in the foundation categories and our national and elite squad competing in the elite categories.
For many this will have been there first competition, for some this will have been an opportunity to dip their toe into the higher levels for good experience, and for our elite squad this was an opportunity to prove their talent by bringing home the medals against stiff opposition.
Well, we did all of that and more, Phoenix you are a squad to be very proud of with several bronze – silver and gold medals. A heap of Yorkshire titles in both Trampoline and DMT who could ask for more.
The lovely comments from other clubs and coaches, our parents, all the messages that kept me up was well worth the efforts by all.
