Congratulations Beckie Great Results

The Adult Gymnastics Set-works Competition held at Basingstoke Gymnastics Club and took place on Sunday 31st March 2024.

Beckie started with her WAG competition in the morning on Floor, then Vault, then Bars, then Beam. Then in the afternoon completed her three set runs for tumbling followed by her two trampoline routines to finish the competition day.

We asked Beckie to explain how the day went for her throughout the competition.

Beckie said,

I did feel quite confident going into the competition, especially once I’d done the open session to get a feel for the competition equipment.

I of course felt nerves as I walked to the venue from the hotel, but a big part of my confidence was down to my positive self talk (both during training and at the competition) and visualisation, including watching back good routines I’d done in training in the few weeks leading up to the competition day.

Adult competitions are always such good fun, as we’re all there trying to put out routines that will make us proud.

However the real reason we’re all there is the same common love for our amazing sport, the support you feel from your fellow competitors at adult competitions is next level compared to other competitions!

I felt the day went very well as I managed to complete all my routines throughout the competition, with the exception of one tiny error at the start of my Beam routine.

I focused on completion of each routine as this is what I knew would bring results, and luckily for me, it did. Watching back my routines I could see a lot of improvements I had worked on, and also what I also want to improve further going forward.

During the presentation I was really happy that I scored above the pass mark on all disciplines & received the highest score of the day for my Tumble runs. In the adult competitions awards are also given for fun memorable moments.

I also won two judges "Ju-Moji" awards for having two "whoopsie" moments. The first was for beam (falling off on my mounts and being vocal about the fact it was my mount of all things😆). Then the second for my Trampoline routines, as this was for grunting as I was fighting through a routine with some travel, but managed to stay calm and complete all ten skills pretty good to complete each routine.

I am particularly proud as I was also presented with the "Most Inspiring Gymnast" award.

This was for my dedication, in travelling 250 miles there and 250 miles back, competing the three disciplines and all after a unfortunate face injury a couple of weeks before!

I want to say a big thank you to everyone but in in particular to my mum for being moral support for me over the weekend, from having to come with me for my first root canal on the Saturday, on route to Basingstoke. To then sitting and waiting around for two hours while I attended an open gym session the night before, this was whilst I familiarise myself with the competition equipment. Again Mum sat and was of course cheering me on from the crowd, also taking all of the video footage of my competition routines.

Having a dedicated family member is so important in a gymnast journey, but most of you have to be physically and mentally tough if you want to succeed.

I had a lot of fun and really enjoy training as a gymnast this gives me so much, routine , structure to my week, physical- mental- and emotional benefits as well as I get to make life long memories and friends.

Everyone at Phoenix High flyers congratulate you Beckie what a brilliant achievement, it just goes to show that age is no barrier when you have determination and passion you can achieve anything.

Well done, looking forward to coaching you preparing for your next competition in August.
